Burnham Ramblers have confirmed that Neil Richmond has left the Ryman League Division One North club to join….
….Ryman Premier Division side East Thurrock United.
The striker has been in inspirational form this season – bagging seventeen goals this season – and it has been this form that has seen the Rocks snap up his services.
Ramblers` manager Keith Wilson said: “I received a phone call from East Thurrock asking if they could speak to Richo.
“Obviously I was reluctant to let our top scorer leave, but I have always said that I wouldn’t stand in any players` way – especially playing at a higher level.
“I was hopeful that Neil may see the season out so with that in mind I waivered the seven-day notice so we could all resolve it one way or another quickly.
“I spoke to Neil and he was firstly surprised they made contact about him, but as I said I’d been expecting it as he’d been scoring on a regular basis and that doesn’t go un-noticed.
“I also said we as a club didn’t want him to leave but wouldn’t stop him from talking to them or signing for them.
“Later, Neil called to say that after giving it a lot of thought and after speaking to East Thurrock, he was going to give it a go over there – purely due to the fact that he feels has to answer a few questions of himself about playing at Ryman Premier level.
“Obviously from our point of view he will be a big loss to us but in Dan Williams, Billy Hunt, Charlie Kirby along with new signings Mark Sissons and Adam Vyse, we have plenty of forwards who now need to take up the mantle of being our main striker and I’m sure they will.
“Personally I’d like to thank ‘Shingles’ for all his efforts during his time with the Ramblers and we will miss his moaning, but most of all his experience.
“He leaves on good terms and I will miss him as a mate as well as a player and you never know we may see him don a Ramblers shirt again.”
